Last month the Craft Co-op got together yet again, this time to make homemade spa gifts just in time for Christmas. I love this group so much. The majority of us met through our spouses/significant others who all went to college together. Along the way, we welcomed few more hot glue gun gurus into the craft group fold. We try to meet monthly, as schedules allow, and everyone chimes in on what we want to do at future crafting events. Sometimes we work on a group craft, and sometimes we each do our own thing. Of course we have snacks and maybe some wine. It wouldn’t be a craft group without those things.
It’s really magical to think how the Craft Co-op started with us meeting and hanging out at the parties of our then-boyfriends to where we are now. Those boyfriends are now husbands and there are few kids in the mix as well.
We are also a well-oiled machine. This is what we started with at our last crafting event. Behold, the cluster of craft supplies!
Everyone pitched in to transform that pile of supplies…
…into this sweet little DIY home spa gift.
Here’s how it all came together. Some of us worked on the bath bombs. There are tons of “recipes” for bath bombs out there. Just type bath bomb in the search field on Pinterest and you will be presented with more options than you ever wanted. We used lavender and spearmint essential oils to make our lavender-mint bath bombs. We also used the teensiest bit of green food coloring to give ours their festive Grinchy green hue.
A few of us were put in charge of making the sugar scrubs. We made two kinds – chocolate orange and gingerbread. These were ridiculously easy. Mix the few ingredients together in a bowl, stir until combined, divvy out into airtight jars, and decorate. Just like the bath bombs, there are tons of recipes for sugar scrubs on Pinterest and elsewhere.
Now about those wash cloths… Our knitters-in-residence were busy the month between our last get-together and this particular craft meet-up. They came prepared with wash cloths to go around. I think the wash cloths really rounded out the whole home spa gift package, don’t you?
Sure, I love any opportunity to be creative and to craft, but what makes these little get-togethers really so wonderful is the fact that we are all friends. While we were mixing together sugar scrubs and pressing the bath bomb mixture into the molds, we were also sharing our lives with each other. To me, that is what made this evening feel so meaningful and productive.
The Craft Co-op meets again in early January, when we will try our hands at natural home cleaning products, among other things. Stay tuned!
