Crafts and Tea

Yesterday was a rainy, chilly February Saturday. Despite all that, it was also super cozy and crafty. My friend Jenny hosted a card making and tea party. Crafting and tea. Sounds like a dream. It kind of was.

Jenny has a friend who happens to be a card-making extraordinaire and a consultant for Stampin Up. That friend, Stacie, kindly took a small group of us through several card making tutorials. We each went home with 10 completed cards.

We also had our fill of tea party-themed snacks. Jenny is a bigger tea addict than me, if you can imagine, so we had three teapots with different types of tea, from black to rooibos to white. In between making cards, we nibbled on cucumber tea sandwiches, quiche, tortilla pinwheels, egg salad croissants, scones, cookies, and of course lemon curd (curious name, but soooooo delicious).

Each of the cards we made involved different types of materials and techniques – from stamping to embossing. I really like how this peacock card turned out. I love the colors and the embellishment of the sequins. I also loved this two-part peacock stamp and how it turned out.

My favorite card of the batch is this pink floral beauty. It was easy to make but doesn’t look like it. What do you think?

Any opportunity to try out a new technique is a good thing in my book. So this cute bicycle card was especially fun. My embossing technique and my glue game needs a little work, but it is a start. I have plans for the card without the hearts.

For those not familiar, I will try to describe how to emboss. 1. Stamp the card or paper with what will be your ultimate design. 2. Sprinkle the embossing powder of your color choice onto the stamped design. Shake off excess powder. 3. Apply heat to the stamped design using an embossing heat tool. It’s like a small, really hot hair dryer.

Of course, it is never just about the crafting that makes these types of experiences what they are. It is the camaraderie, the conversations and laughter that occur while you’re stamping and cutting out flowers and sprinkling embossing powder.

What crafty, creative things have you been up to lately? I’d love to hear about it!
